Having studied the lively and (usually) lovable world of Zoology in Grade Four, fifth graders now study the much less expressive world of the plants in Botany. As a class teacher, I always anticipated that my 11 year-olds would feel let down at having to study a much quieter kingdom of nature, and I was always surprised at the enthusiasm that they felt for the subtleties of the plant world. Once again, the wisdom of the Waldorf curriculum was in evidence -- and the fifth graders' love of Botany shines through their art work. --Notes by Eugene Schwartz
